Haryana is mainly plain land with few hilly ranges. Geographically area can be divided into three divisions: Plains, Hilly and sandy area. It is located between 27°39' to 30°35' N latitude and between 74°28' and 77°36' E longitude. The altitude of Haryana varies from 700 to 3600 ft above sea level

Rivers of Haryana

Land of perennial rivers Haryana’s major rivers are Yamuna, the Saraswati and the Ghaggar. tThe Markanda, the Sahibi and Indori are tributaries flowing through the state.

Forest land

Total forest area in Haryana is 1.56 lakh hectares. Maximum forest area comes under Yamuna nagar district. Trees like Mulberry, eucalyptus, pine, kikar, shisham, babul, Mango, Peepal , Neem, Chinar , Safedha , Tar , Sal and Khair etc are common trees in Haryana. Forestation has been given special attention and two environmental courts have been set up in Faridabad and Hissar District in Haryana.

* More than 300 species of birds are found in Haryana and also black buck, nilgai, panther, fox, mongoose, jackal and wild dogs. Demography Hindu majority land of about 88.23% of total population has 5.78% Muslims (mainly Meos), 6% Sikhs and 0.45%. Others. Haryana has second largest Sikh population in India after the state of Punjab. Social administration system called khap is the prominent feature of society in Haryana.

Gurgaon Division has Palwal District, Faridabad District, Mahendragarh District, Gurgaon District, Mewat District, and Rewari District, Ambala Division has Kaithal District, Ambala District, Panchkula District, Kurukshetra District, and Yamuna Nagar District, Rohtak Division has Karnal District, Jhajjar District, Rohtak District, Panipat District, and Sonipat District and Hisar Division has Fatehabad District, Bhiwani District, Jind District, Hisar District, and Sirsa District.

Major source of livelihood in Haryana is agriculture and dairy farming. Paddy, wheat, maize, bajra , barley, sugarcane, cotton, pulses, oil seeds and potato sunflower, soya been , mushroom etc are the crops of Haryana state. Melon, musk melon, mango, guava, lemon , water melon etc are important important fruits grown in Haryana.

Haryana brings Golden Period of Sports in India

* Sushil Kumar made a world record at the 2010 Commonwealth Games by winning a game in just 11 seconds Former India World Cup winning captain Kapil Dev and former Indian volleyball player Balwant Sagwal hails from Haryana. Haryana has a dedicated sports school MNSS at Rai, Sonipat which is affiliated to Sports Authority of India.

Haryana made extensive contribution in bringing recognition to India in sports. Haryana has produced some best sportsman medal tally in sports. 20 out of 38 gold medals and in the last commonwealth games held in London which India won were won by the people from the Indian state Haryana.

Wrestler Yogeshwar Dutt won bronze medal in 2012 Olympics. Boxer Vijender Singh Beniwal won a bronze medal in the 2008 Olympics. Vikas Krishan Yadav, a boxer from Bhiwani district, won the gold medal in the 2010 Asian Games. Indian wrestler Sushil Kumar won bronze medal in 2008 Beijing Olympics and silver in 2012 London Olympics.
